By Ann Perry

Osteoarthritis is the most common cause for the chronic pains of dogs and is affecting a fifth of all of the adult ones with number doubling for those older than seven years old. This degenerative disease causes decreased life quality, loss of mobility and pain. Other types of arthritis could affect them such as spondylosis, spondylitis and spinal stenosis.

Signs that they are affected include pain after exercise, slowing down during walks, stiffness when they lie down or get up, or limping. This may be the reason you would need the natural arthritis pain relief for dogs in helping their condition to improve. Do this while still giving them the prescribed medications provided by the veterinarian for your pet.

Make sure to visit the vet and have them diagnosed first if they really are suffering from arthritis and avoid making your own diagnosis. Because you might give them medications for pain that may make them worse instead of improving them. That is what happens if you try to cure the condition without proper diagnosis from the licensed professional.

Be careful when giving them prescribed medications as they can negatively affect their internal organs and other body parts. This is why these natural methods of relieving pain is advised as an alternative or complementary method in improving their problems. Many ways are there that you could try for your pet to determine which has improved their health.

Though remember that what is effective for one dog might not have the same effects to another so try different supplements. Changing their diet is also advisable like including foods best for arthritis like ginger, celery, alfalfa and papaya. Be careful of what you are feeding them since there are ingredients which are toxic when too much is eaten.

Provide your dog of things that will help them be more comfortable while doing their routine daily like walking, eating and sleeping. This includes placing carpet runners in floors which are hardwood to prevent the animal to slip and create more unwanted stress upon their whole body. Another is giving them a bed with proper support and is soft.

Do not stop their daily walks but make it shorter only and increase the frequency so they could get rest between each walk. Exercise is still important for them because they might gain weight which makes their body heavier to carry. And this will result in more stress on their bones and joints particularly those in areas where the condition greatly affects them.

Remember to have their nails trimmed because when they are too long, their gait changes usually which could cause arthritis and skeletal changes. Use ramp for them to climb into bed, sofa chairs and cars, reducing strain on hips and knees. If moving around is difficult, then think of helping them with wheelchairs, harness or carts.

Consider laser, physical and massage therapy, acupuncture and supplements to improve their recent condition. Using a combination of them improves the quality of life for dogs despite the arthritis. Check first with your vet though before you use any of these.
