Omega-3 Fats On Steroids!

There is a lot of information available on the effects of essential fatty acids and their importance. The term 'Omega-3' is a buzzword in health these days, but very few know exactly how to maximize the effect of this essential oil. There is a product that enhances the effects of Omega 3 fats in a way that has never been formulated. Think of it as Omega-3 fats on steroids. But before we discuss this wonderful product, we need to explore essential fatty acids in detail.

Unsaturated fats, or "good fats", have got a liquid consistency at 70 degrees. They will remain in fluid form after cooling. Good fats are referred to as vital fats: omega-3 and omega 6 with both being unsaturated fats.

Saturated fats, however, have large amounts of saturated fatty acids. These fatty acids are "saturated" with hydrogen. This is about the structure and means they have only single bonds between carbon atoms. This chemical arrangement provides for no room in their chemical structure for additional hydrogen atoms. Saturated fats are usually solid at room temperature. Types of saturated fat include butter, coconut oil, lard, and palm oil.

Think of fat as a form of energy, or a source of energy. Now, this energy is needed during aerobic exercise. A good benchmark is that a longer duration exercise means there is more fat contribution for providing energy. Your nervous system and brain uses fat in larger amounts. Most of us know there are two kinds of fat: saturated and unsaturated. Unsaturated fats are often called - "good" fat, and these are the fats that should make up the greatest amount of fat intake.

Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) is an Omega-6 fatty acid found in borage oil where it occurs in considerable quantities. It is also found in smaller amounts in black currant and evening primrose oils. Contrast this to the sunflower, safflower and other Omega-6 oils, the GLA found in borage oil has markedly different physiological effects. Linoleic acid in its present dietary form causes inflammation. This is caused by an associated production of arachidonic acid (AA). GLA plays an interfering role in the production of AA and this lowers inflammation.
